Science:

Today in science we completed a review sheet over sections 2 and 3 for tomorrow’s test.  Students also have a review sheet for section 1 of chapter 2 as well.  This was done at an earlier date.  They should also study their vocabulary as well.  Students also started the vocabulary for chapter 3 if they finished the study guide.

Homework:  Study for your test.  Be sure you have both study guides and your vocabulary.  The test will be Wednesday.

ELA

We did DGP for week 8 as a test grade.  This was a pop test.  Students wrote sentences with their 5 vocabulary words.  They needed 2 compound sentences and 1 complex sentence.  They were also to find 3 additional words similar in meaning to this week’s vocabulary.  They should have written sentences with these three as well.  They are also to begin writing their DAR essays.  They should have at least the first page (front and back) written.  They also worked on their research cards.

Homework:  Work on your reading and research.

Science

Warm Up:  1.  What is the name of the process in which water diffuses into or out of a cell?  2.  Why does this process have its own name?  3.  Is this active or passive transport?

Homework:  Students should finish the word search we began during today’s lab.

In science today, we completed a diffusion lab.  Students will have to write me a brief report (3 paragraphs) about diffusion in order to make up the lab if they were absent.

ELA

In ELA today, we went over DGP.  We also took notes on direct objects and predicate nominatives.  We completed a worksheet to show off our skills identifying predicate nominatives and direct objects.  Students would benefit from reading back over these notes tonight.

Homework:  Work on your reading and/or your DAR.

Science

We read about diffusion and osmosis.  We also watched a Brainpop video about diffusion and passive transport.  We took the video quiz over the video.  You can visit www.brainpop.com and watch the two videos.  Use ucmspanthers as the log-in and password.  If you are absent and cannot view the videos, then write 15 facts about diffusion.

Homework:  Finish the worksheet (Edhelper) on Diffusion.

ELA

Today in ELA, we discussed the proper way to do research.  Students are to correct their research cards tonight as many of them had done them incorrectly.  Each index card in the research folder should only have one fact on it.  The cards should then be placed in the appropriate envelope in the folder.  Some of you have WAY too many facts on your cards.  This is not good!

HOMEWORK:  Finish the note cards and do so correctly!

Science

Today in science, we took a vocabulary quiz.  This was an announced quiz, and I have warned students several days in advance.  We also placed our eggs into vinegar to soak for a few days and did our data chart.  Borrow a copy from someone in your assigned group for your egg’s measurements.

Homework:  Pg. 68, do the last 4 short answer questions on this page.  They are in the lower right hand column.

We completed the first stage of the “Eggsperiment” lab.  I placed students into groups and they completed the inital measurements and observations of their eggs.

If you were absent today, see me early Wednesday morning to make up your quiz.  You may come to my room between 7:35 and 7:45.  For the lab, get with your assigned group to get your data for day one.

ELA

Today in ELA, we watched a video about the Transcontinental Railroad.  We took notes over it as research for our DAR essay contest.

We discussed “The Bracelet” questions.

As usual, we went over DGP.  We also graded the daily language practice for Monday and Tuesday.

Homework:  Please be working on your DAR research AND doing your reading.  Remember, only read on the days you eat!
